Behind the Design

I've always liked drawing this surfer and I think it's because it captures the idea that the best surfer out in the water is the one out there having the most fun. When I first learned to surf, I wasn't able to pop-up for months. My friend would see me beating myself up, so he would turn to me and say, "Man, it's just good to get in the water huh?". It made me laugh and was a way of humorously coping with the fact that I wanted to catch a wave so badly. I eventually did learn to catch waves, but there are some days still that when I go surfing, I still don't catch a "good one," so I know to laugh and remind myself that it's a good surf day, even if you just get into the water.
